About Olga Blake-McKenzie

Author | Wearable Art Designer | Storyteller

For Olga Blake-McKenzie, creativity has always been a way of seeing the world differently.

Growing up on a cattle property in Central Queensland as the eldest of nine children, Olga discovered early that imagination could transform the ordinary into something extraordinary. With limited resources but endless curiosity, she began reinventing her clothing with colour, patterns, sequins and whatever materials she could find.

What began as a childhood fascination became a lifelong passion for artistic expression.

With more than 50 years of sewing and creative experience, Olga has developed a distinctive approach to wearable art, transforming reclaimed, recycled and forgotten materials into elaborate, one-of-a-kind creations. Drawing inspiration from history, mythology, nature and the human experience, each garment becomes a character with its own identity, personality and story.

Through her creative label, Ollymacs, Olga explores themes of individuality, courage, resilience, compassion and belonging. Her work celebrates the beauty of being different and the belief that everyone has a story worth telling.

Her debut book, Timelines in Threads, brings these creations and their stories together, inviting readers into a world where fashion becomes a language for expressing the complexities of life.

For Olga, wearable art is more than an artistic practice. It is an opportunity to give discarded materials new purpose, to encourage people to embrace their individuality and to create meaningful connections through storytelling.

Her journey is a testament to a lifetime of imagination, reinvention and the courage to create without limitations.

Because every thread remembers. And every story deserves to be worn.
